Nominations are being sought for the Gatling Award for Outstanding Service.  The award recognizes  outstanding leadership and service to science education at the district, regional, state levels and beyond. Submit a nomination by October 1

Changes for Science Safety and your school Chemical Hygiene Plan

OSHA recently updated its Hazard Communication Standard (2012) to comply with a UN mandate called the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). This means that schools must update their Chemical Hygiene Plan (required by the OSHA Lab Standard) and retrain all teachers who deal with hazardous chemicals such as science, art, CTE, graphics, auto, horticulture, etc. by December 1, 2013.

North Carolina Joins Effort to Write Next Generation Science Standards

The initiative to develop K-12 science standards is expanding with the addition of 6 more states. In September, 20 states were announced as lead state partners.

Now, 26 states will lead the development of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), a shared effort that will clearly define the content and practices all students will need to learn from kindergarten through high school graduation.

Call for Nominations

Nominations for the 2017 NCSLA elections are currently sought. The following offices and positions are open:

  • President-Elect
  • Director-at-Large (2)

Nominees must be current members of NCSLA. Nominees for President-Elect must have served on the NCSLA Board of Directors for at least one year. 

Nominees must complete the online forms not later than January 15, 2017.

Ernest R. Bibby Trust Fund

Donations to the Trust Fund are tax deductible and help insure that NCSLA programs and services are ongoing.  The NCSLA Trust Fund was named in honor of past-president and long time champion of science education, Ernest R. Bibby.
