The spring membership
meeting for NCSLA was held Thursday, April 29, 2004 at the
Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill.
A
reception, sponsored by Holt, Rinehart and Winston Publishing Company,
was held at 6 pm followed by the dinner meeting, sponsored by Lab Aids,
Inc., at 7 pm.
Our keynote speaker
for the meeting was Jo Anne Vasquez. Dr. Vasquez is an experienced elementary
teacher, science author and professional development consultant who
have recently been appointed by President Bush to a seat on the National
Science Board, the governing board of the National Science Foundation.
She is the first K-12 educator to become a sitting member of this prestigious
board.
Dr. Vasquez spoke
on
Teaching Science to a Sound-Bite Generation:

inquiry-oriented manner, takes patience, perseverance and time for both

the school day. How are we going to do it and most of all does it matter
to our nation?
