NCSLA Spring 2010 Meeting

The spring membership meeting was held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 12 pm to 4 pm at the Embassy Suites in Cary, NC.

The focus of the meeting was the New Essential Standards Project, which will replace the current NC Standard Course of Study. Dr. Ted Willard of Project 2061 (the architect of Atlas of Science Literacy), along with an expert from NC Department of Public Instruction, engaged us in presentations and small group interactive sessions. The entire meeting program is designed to enhance our understanding of the New Essential Standards and educate us on the details of implementation and impact on science teaching and learning in public schools across our state.

Our meeting began with lunch (sponsored by Carolina Biological) , followed by the program described above, presentation of the Michael Jackson Distinguished Service Award and culminating with usual membership business, including various reports and announcements, installation of new officers, and, finally, passing of the gavel to the incoming president.
