A Message from the President

Lisa_Hudson-LucasNothing could be finer than to be in North Carolina! Our 2013 Spring Renewal Conference will be on Saturday, April 27 at the Embassy Suites in Cary, North Carolina. Mark your calendar now and make plans to attend this annual event! Look for details in this issue of the NCSLA Newsletter.

Leadership comes with many roles and responsibilities; mentor, advocate, listener, collaborator, communicator, resource and guide. I am sure you can think of other hats you wear and change daily in your various leadership roles. Are you currently mentoring a new or beginning science leader? If not, I encourage you to begin this journey by inviting someone to attend the spring leadership conference. This is great opportunity for us to build relationships with those who share our interest in science and recruit new members.

Thank you for your time and commitment to science in our classrooms and communities in North Carolina. It is an exciting time for us as leaders and learners as we move forward into the Next Generation Science Standards. To learn more about the NGSS visit this website: http://www.nextgenscience.org/

If you are interested in expanding your knowledge of mentoring, register for the upcoming webinar: Comprehensive, Equitable Induction of Beginning Science and Mathematics Teachers on February 27, 2013.  This webinar features the author of a WestEd report on an international comparative study of beginning STEM teacher support and also discusses related equity issues.

Learning and Leading Together,
Lisa Hudson-Lucas
NCSLA President, 2012-13
