Darlene Ryan Elected to NSELA Presidency
The results are in…Darlene Ryan, long-time NSELA board member was recently elected to the presidential chain of our national affiliate, the National Science Leadership Association. CONGRATULATIONS DARLENE!
Darlene began her three-year NSELA term at the membership meeting on March 29 at NSELA’s annual membership meeting in Indianapolis. She will serve for one year each as President-Elect, President, and Retiring President. She will also serve as NSELA’s representative to the Alliance of Affiliates, a part of the National Science Teachers Association governance structure.
Darlene has served as President, District Director, Science Leadership Fellows Program Coordinator, and Newsletter Editor for NCSLA. We will miss her on our board of directors but wish her well as she embarks on her new role at the national level.
Rebecca Hite Selected to be an Einstein Fellow
Rebecca Hite, Carrboro HS, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, is one of nineteen teachers from among over 200 applicants selected to be members of the prestigious Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program during 2012-2013. She will serve as a Congressional Fellow sponsored by the Department of Energy’s Office of Science. CONGRATULATIONS, REBECCA!
The Einstein Fellowship Program is administered by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in partnership with the Triangle Coalition for Science and Technology Education and participating host agencies. Selected teachers spend a school year in the Washington, DC metro area serving in a Federal agency or a Congressional Office. Fellows provide practical insight and a classroom perspective to policy makers and program managers developing or managing education programs. The Fellows help to increase understanding, communication, and cooperation between the STEM education community and legislative and executive branches of the Federal government.
Rebecca is a graduate of the NCSLA Science Leadership Fellows Program and is currently a facilitator for the program. She also has just completed a three-year term as Director on the NCSLA Board of Directors.
