Lisa_Hudson-LucasI am excited about the opportunity to serve you as president of NCSLA. I was delighted to see so many of you in attendance at our annual Spring Membership Meeting. This year's STEM focus was interactive and innovative. Incorporating time for networking and collaboration continues to be valuable to our members. I want to express my gratitude to the leadership of our Past President, Cathy Wallwork, and the tireless efforts Beth Harris and other members of NCSLA Board who helped to make the event a great success.

When presenting at conferences and various trainings, I often ask folks if they have ever had a theme song. I then sing a couple of lines from the half dozen or so songs from defining moments in my life. The audiences' responses are both comical and compassionate. I believe we all have a theme song that depicts our personalities and passions. As a leader, the lyrics of Martina McBride's Anyway, remind me to stay the course in the midst of obstacles and challenges.

Membership is essential for effective and successful operations and activities of our organization. Have you personally invited someone in your professional arena to become a member of NCSLA? Now is a great time to take advantage of NCSLA's newly adopted group membership structure and encourage a cohort of 10 (or more) colleagues to join our professional network at a discounted rate of $20 per person. A great part of leadership is encouraging others to become leaders in their field of science. This is an economical way to become a part of NCSLA.
