Getting to Know our Newly- elected Officers

Pamela Gilchrist is the Imhotep Academy Coordinator for the Science House in Raleigh. She was serving as a NCLSA board member before she accepted her new position as President-Elect.  Pamela believes as a leader in our organization it is important to empower, support, and equip teachers. She welcomes the opportunity to lead an organization, which values students, teachers, and quality science instruction.

Lisa Knight left the science classroom at Northwood High School to become a Geology and Physics Instructor at Central Carolina Community College. She is still very actively involved with public education with teachers and students at the middle and high school levels. As a Director, Lisa would like to continue to bring a vital link to NCSLA, making connections between K- 20 classroom and industry. A solid working affiliation with community colleges will help NCSLA and science leaders across the state advocate for strong curricula. Critical thinking skills and stimulating interest in the concepts being learned by my students should be encouraged in K-12 science classroom.

Michael Bowman is a science teacher at North Buncombe High School in Weaverville, NC and adjunct instructor at Western Carolina University. He entered teaching after a career as physicist in the oil industry. He is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (PAEMST). As Director, Michael wants to be part of the larger changes occurring in science education in the state of North Carolina, especially new state and national standards.

Ron Owens is a science teacher at Kinston High School. He has devoted his professional life to helping promote science education in North Carolina. He has provided the financial expertise necessary to manage the budget of our professional organization over the past three years with diligence and ease.
